Progress...

It is hard to imagine that even in our time of high technology there are places which the progress can not reach. And if coming progress can theoretically reduce possible profit, it tends to be limited.

Most free e-mail services are known to get profit from ads showed to users in mailbox web-interface. So, web industry giants don't hasten to provide free access to the mailboxes via POP3 and SMTP protocols, as the efficiency of their ad places will considerably decrease which is unwanted situation.Such giants as www.Yahoo.com, MSN.com, and AOL.com have many users who are attached to other services of the companies and they are being slow to provide users with such access, just because people got used to use the web interface.

Surely there exist some methods to evade these restraints. For example, there are programs of third-party writers for Yahoo.com who convert the web-traffic into POP3. But this increases the possibility of password stealing with the help of that program, and that reduces the willing to use it. For Hotmail.com from MSN.com there is possibility to use the special protocol which is integrated in the Outlook Express and does not accessible for the others programmers of the mail programs that narrow down the users freedom when choosing the post program. The www.AOL.com has access by POP3 and SMTP, but it is accessible for the clients for internet access from that provider and this cramp the region of mail using because the internet access from the AOL.com is not everywhere.

However, they lose a lot, trying to follow the outdated marketing policy that is intended for online advertising, and limiting the user's freedom in his choice. There is another way to monetize guests by attracting and keeping users. A company Google.com with its email Gmail.com has become this new model. Users have the access to POP3 and SMTP interfaces, which does not limit the user's opportunities to work with the email. Furthermore the service has a great advantage over ordinary email clients like Outlook Express; this is a huge size of the mailbox. All letters are free stored on the server, which allows the user to get the access to his mailbox from each point of the world easily. Moreover, only relevant ad is showed to the user, no obtrusive banners! This format is becoming more and more likable for email users because a convenient web interface allows you to forget about installing and setting problems of email programs.

As a result the email systems we will know in the future will be web interfaces, without actually using any email programs. And most likely Yahoo.com, www.Hotmail.com and AOL.com will use this model later because that method is much more advantageous than outdated ways of using email programs.Basically POP3 and SMTP become even obsolete; the Gmail.com provides new e-mails reception notifications via RSS channels.
